Always Be Prepared?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20120614/us-scout-abuse-files/
This hit home for me. Several years back, one of my neighbors was arrested. He had been a respected scout leader for years…and was also a pedophile.
I wonder if they had any files on him? I have no real ax to grind with the BSA…but I believe that these files could have protected thousands of kids from abuse…and wonder why only now, we are hearing about it.

I wonder why myself.
I was once in charge of Children Church and I was very concerned about this. I convinced the Elders that no male should be allowed to work with children for a least 6 months. Most pedophiles won’t wait that long. Also, the agree to check all public records about criminal behavior–especially pedophiles. Our state now has them listed on the internet.
Too many well known organizations have had problems with this. I will blunt. Men cannot be trusted when the offer to help. They must be checked out.
@ANVRSADDAY - I suspect that statement would offend a good many people…but given the choice between offending a good person, and enabling a pedophile? A good person can forgive me…
That is so true. They catch the person long after, while those victims have been putting up with their abuse for years.
Happens here all of the time and totally pisses me off.
These coverups in scouts organizations, sports organizations and leagues and Catholic churches have been going on way too long.
@Grannys_Place @angys_coco - - yes it’s infuriating
@ANVRSADDAY - Well said. Very well said, alpha males cover up for each other, sub-alpha, cover up because they’re nervous or uncomfortable and protecting themselves from they know not what, however it works if your not a little bit different. Most men do cover up for each other and cannot be trusted it’s a brave few males who will admit that is truth.
They say that people who are molested are more likely to become molesters themselves.
They also say the recidivism rate is seriously high…exceeding 80 percent.
I find this confusing.
I know a number of women who were either molested, or actually raped in their lives…and none of them ever became rapists, or ,molesters. I am not blaming the victims—but I am wondering why it seems to not be common in women…but is in men.
Alan Dershowitz wrote The Abuse Excuse…back in 1994. He believes it is mythic—but very convincing to reduce, or even eliminate harsh sentences, by gaining sympathy for the offenders.
I am not saying it is, or isn’t…but I do find the gender gap to be compelling.
