  • Akin and Atrocity

    http://www.aisfor.org/an-appeal-to-rep-todd-akin/

The woman who wrote this blog was a victim of rape, who made the choice to carry her fetus to term.

It is not a happy story…but I found her reply to Akin and his ilk powerful.

Women stand to lose a LOT if that dipshit duo are elected.

If you read what the man said, you would be appalled not only by his lack of logic, but his apparent lack of basic information about HOW pregnancy happens…

  • the whole thing is appalling. frankly i am so enraged i feel exhausted and drained

let’s  rape rape survivors once again by saying shit like this

  • That whole thing is major stupid I can’t believe the stupid man logic here he need to go back to Jr high SEX ED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks ladies…as the mother of a young woman I am starting to get VERY afraid for her future….

  • I would recommend this more than once if I could.  That woman’s story is the first thing I’ve read on this that didn’t make me feel like my IQ was dropping.  Her story is amazing and courageous.  It must take a lot of strength to be a mother to a child that reminds you of your rape.

  • @galadrial - me too. believe me. these backlashes scare the fuck outta me

  • i didn’t get through the entire blog. forgive me if these points were already made there.

Akin opened his mouth and stated what the conservative base of the republican party has been pushing for years. their logic is, if a woman gets raped her body doesn’t allow the pregnancy therefore a woman who does get pregnant didn’t really get raped. “she wanted it.”

i’ll try to catch a segment again later. i didn’t get the name of the republican who recently said the following: “rape is like the weather. you can’t do anything about it so you might as well enjoy it.”  a news anchor once said something similar during one of his broadcasts and was subsequently fired. i believe that was in the 1970s.

some republicans are calling on Akin to step down because of his statement. an Akin backer has pulled its pro Akin ads but not for the reason one might think. by saying what he did Akin has thrown the spotlight on Romney’s VP pick Paul Ryan because Ryan’s thinking is consistent with Akin. Paul Ryan has time and time again boasted he is the most pro-life person in Congress. Paul Ryan co-sponsored a federal personhood bill. last year Paul Ryan co-sponsored a bill that had it passed, which it didn’t, would have redefined rape. that is an alternative attempt at ending a woman’s right to an abortion. the government supports abortions of women who have been raped. by narrowing the definition of rape as Ryan wanted to do far fewer women would get that support. Ryan has stated many times he doesn’t  believe in a woman’s right to an abortion in cases of rape and incest.

the GOP is in damage control mode and trying to make Akin go away as quickly as possible. Romney and Ryan are already back peddling on the issue but Ryan’s record on this issue is clear. as for Romney, in an interview last week Ryan said he went through a long vetting process. if Ryan is the guy Romney chose as his running mate after a long vetting process we can only assume Romney is also in line with Akin’s and Ryan’s thinking.

  • That is so true. That Rep. Akin’s statement just goes to show how gullible and stupid he can be to say “Legitimate rape”! The article (the letter) is excellent and I hope he steps down as he is been asked to by his Republican party, but he does not want to. So in the end, it is power that he wants. He is not ashamed of what he said. And has absolutely no empathy towards women who are raped.
