  • An Open Letter To The GOP

    Hi guys.

I know you’re all pretty darned shaken, since your most mediocre (and please…don’t tell me Romney was your “best and brightest”, he simply had the thickest wallet.) did not succeed in ousting Obama. Usually after a defeat, there is introspection, and retrospection—a real examination of what went wrong. But instead, there has been this AWFUL public display of poor sportsmanship. I’ve seen FIVE YEAR OLDS react better to losing a round of Candy-land. And last week, one of your gurus suggested the GOP had a “messaging” problem. No…we heard you…loud and clear. It was just that the message SUCKED. No, we don’t want “free stuff”. But with so many people trying to keep heart and soul together during an employment crisis, we need to know why y’all think the upper management DESERVE to earn hundred of times more than their rank and file. We don’t understand why you persist in believing that the working poor and middle class are DOING something wrong, and deserve their poverty…and they DO work hard. Suggesting otherwise is arrogant…to say the least. We question why you persist in believing that the “playing field” is level…and “anyone has the same shot”, when clearly that has been untrue for years.

We’ve watched as thousands upon thousands of mid level jobs LEFT our shores…only to have you crown the people who sent them “Job makers”. The idea is to make jobs HERE…not Bangladesh. The concept is not to accuse us on “not being competitive” with a wage of sixty cents an hour.  We are not lazy people…so stop calling us that. Oh…and you might put a sock in it about contraception. If you want to stop abortion, contraception is the best way. And demonizing women on one hand for having babies, then condemning them for getting abortions? Well you’re starting to sound foolish, guys. And having a senate panel on contraception that didn’t include women? Backing that moron who insisted that women have magic hoohoos that “can shut down rape babies”?

Guys…you have to cut the dead wood. When one of the flock says something STUPID, untrue, and embarrassing, you pull their membership from the club. You are no longer perceived as being intelligent, but conservative. A decade of Palin kissing, and pandering to tin hat idiots has left you looking WAY stupid. Oh yeah…and I hate to tell you this, but Reagan DIED. That wonderful hay day is long over…and even Ronnie would not have recognized what the party has become. You spent FOUR years trying to “wait out” Obama. You could have run almost anyone…other than Mitt Romney or the Klown Kar of insanity  he outlasted, and won. I asked then where the hell the Varsity was…time and again. I wasn’t being bitchy…I was asking a serious question.  And the answer was…crickets.

That was it? Where is your brain trust? They called Newt Gingrich the party INTELLECTUAL…and I thought it was Jon Stewart, pulling our leg.

    But no…you meant it.

A few things could help you rebuild.

    •Stop ignoring math and science.

•Stop pretending women and minorities don’t vote.

•Understand that Americans ALL work hard…not just the one’s who OWN the companies.

•Pay attention to stuff that’s EASY to predict…like the coming disaster with student loans—and try to deal with it NOW…before it cripples another generation financially.

•Look AHEAD…and stop worrying about the PACS…they aren’t going away…even if you actually DO YOUR job.

•Don’t say something you actually don’t BELIEVE…save the fetus and starve the child are diametrically opposed concepts. If you take that stance, we will assume you are idiots.

•Stop pretending that “business as usual” is some sort of plan for the future. The market melt down of 2008 showed us that Business is capable of HUGELY stupid decisions…and corporations really AREN’T people.

So…if you really want a shot at staying in the game…stop talking, and start THINKING. We got your message…and it was rejected.

Don’t offer us yesterday’s fish in today’s paper…we can smell the difference.

  • Great post.  There is little to add.

  • Fantastic post. I think there are some within the GOP who think like this, but they just lack the influence to make the changes necessary.

The impression I get is that the GOP leadership have cotton wool in their ears and and are stumbling along with blinkers.
2014 and 2016 will be extremely tough years if the GOP don’t wake up and realize that America is a far more diverse society than it was even 15-20 years ago, and priorities change.
    Oh well.

  • The GOP reminds me of a bunch of high school quarterback townies.  They’ve never left their hometowns, so they don’t know anything about the rest of the world except through stereotypes.  When they see the weak, their instinct is to bully; not protect.  And they spend their lives reminiscing about the “good ole days” instead of planning for a meaningful future.

  • I LOVE THIS WOMAN. you rawk, lisa

just imagine me in the stands whoopin and a hollerin a most eloquent encouragement , FUCKIN A!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is too good for xanga. it ought to be posted where it could reach mooooooooooooooooooooore

  • Perfectly said. I will add a few suggestions to the GOP.

Stop listening to the lies NRA wacko Wayne LaPierre is telling. No LaPierre…there was no wild looting in South Brooklyn or anywhere in NYC after Super Storm Sandy. In fact crime went down and people helped each other. There was no need for anyone to run out and buy as many guns as they could get their hands on.

Don’t remain silent as Senator Cruz claims Chuck Hagel received an unprecedented endorsement from Iran unless you’re willing to admit Ronald Reagan received an endorsement from Iran when he ran against Jimmy Carter for the Presidency and what followed soon after was the Iran-Contra scandal.

Don’t tell us you are changing your policies then turn around and vote again against the Violence Against Women Act which seeks to protect women from domestic violence.

John Boehner, don’t stand at your little podium and ask “Where are the jobs?” then watch your party put to votes nothing about jobs but rather legislation to take a woman’s right to make her own decision with her own doctor or plot ways to make it more difficult for democrats and independents to vote.

John Boehner and Eric Cantor, when they call Americans Marxists and say Obama is a secret Muslim don’t stand there and tell us it’s not your job to tell your constituents what to think because that is exactly what you do all the time. You tell them what to think and you tell all of us, falsely, what the American people think. We don’t think like you to which the lowest Congressional approval rating in history is a testament.

If Ryan, Cruz and Rubio are your future leaders you might as well close up shop now.

  • Just dropping by to say hi and so you know I am still sending you hugs

  • How do you find out who is “conservative”? Ask who is in favor of raising the nationwide minimum payrate.

How greedy can you be to not pay a decent wage? “Conservatives” can justify paying below minimum wage. They have no mercy in asking for people to work harder and telling them to shut up if asking for a decent wage.

What is a decent wage? Basically they ignore how extravagent they can live and ignore that a decent wage involves paying rent and having a car and car insurance.

I am lucky to be able to earn below minimum wage because I get a break on my rent and do not own a car. But basically it is sick how CEOs earn 100 times the wages as their paid workers. What would justify their earning so much more? That they were smart in screwing their workers?

  • @PPhilip - It is not surprising that the largest concentration of Conservatives are in the Southern States. Slave master mentality is alive and well.

  • @tendollar4ways - I wonder if the billionaires do not blog on xanga? Interesting theory that a lot of conservatives have that slave mentality, some of the conservatives are not that racist cough TheoDam cough.

I am surprised to read how protective conservatives are of small businesses (in order to include more “regular” people). Most small businesses tend to go out of business despite the help conservatives want to give them.

  • I agree. They are stuck in the mid twentieth century. I sorta thought we wewre getting past the “women versus men” thing, but I think they would rather we go back home where we belong.

  • cheers.  nothing i can possibly add, except maybe some bad language.

  • As a Democrat, I have to say, besides that the Democrats need some decent opposition, it is just sad to see a once-credible political party hostage to know-nothings and kooks. You’d like to think it’s a passing thing and the GOP will eventually reign in their more extreme elements and become more centrist again, like the Democrats did, but it’s hard to see it happening right now. It sums up where things are that what we’ve got, and have had for the past four years in the White House, is essentially a moderate Republican administration.

  • I must say that if the GOP was capable of seeing their mistake they would have already fixed it. The problem isn’t so much the politicians, it’s the crazy people who put them there.

I have a theory of how we got into this waking nightmare; After Roe vs Wade, Christians began to take up the cause politically. The protests didn’t have any effect except to polarize people more even within the churches. So these mega churches started to run people for office locally and on the state level who had basically no other qualification than their stance on abortion. Now 50 years later, Christians have almost single-handedly stocked every aspect of government with absolute idiots who are pro-life, anti evolution, good ole boys who just fuck up everything they touch in government. The crown jewel of ignorant apes the GOP calls politicians was GWB who fucked the entire world so good that it’s going to take 20 years to get back on track.
The GOP acts like a traitor, but really it’s just complete stupidity.

  • @brown_buffalo - Putting it on Roe V Wade isn’t quite accurate. When people started believing that ketchup was a vegetable, that people were LIVING LARGE on Welfare, that the homeless LIKED it…we were well on the road. They abandoned the infrastructure—all in the name of “no new taxes”, and ignored the fact that bridges and roads would not repair themselves. They outsourced jobs—and actually gave the companies that did so tax credits…until Corporate Welfare was rampant. Greed was good…and they believed Bernie Madoff. They gave home loans to people who couldn’t afford them in the least…then let them sell those loans as an “investment”.
“The one with the most toys wins” was the motto of a generation…and now those same folks are deep in debt, and wondering how it happened.

I don’t blame the GOP exclusively…people actually believed that our population could grow by 30 million over decades—and taxes wouldn’t go up. They accepted when they suddenly became “fees”, and didn’t say a word. They were silent when we had an unfunded war…so in a way we ASKED to get screwed.

  • @galadrial - I think what I said is the way these ignorant politicians got into office, you’ve outlined the crazy stuff they’ve done subsequent to the actual reason a major religion got involved in politics AS a religion.

They rewrite history, which is tricky if you haven’t read any history, (I remind you of Sarah Palin’s ride of Paul Revere), they don’t understand the economy unless it’s in the most basic and sophomoric way, they create facts and news organizations to willfully spread lies about people they demonize. In short, their zeal for what they think is righteousness makes them a danger to us all because of their lack of any competence in leading or making national or state decisions.

  • After losing large in November many in the GOP, after the shock was over began talking about a need to make some changes. I came back to this blog because apparently they didn’t get the message from the voters and they are not serious about making changes. Among speakers they are inviting to speak at their CPAC convention: Sarah Palin, Rick Santorum, Allen West, Newt Gingrich, Scott Walker, Rand Paul and wait for it….Mitt Romney. Doesn’t look like the face of change to me.

  • @TheSutraDude - Ah…but they are employing the strategy of a two year old, playing hide and seek. If they can’t see you (since they have their head covered) YOU can’t see them. It’s only adorable when a two year old does it. When a plus 50 old guy in an Italian suit tries it? PATHETIC.

  • @galadrial - Yup. Haha. I was 5 or 6 when I kept peeking around a corner and asking my dad, who I could see, could see me. After about 1/2 dozen times he explained to me, if you can see me I can see you.

I forgot to mention NRA spokesman Wayne LaPierre. He’s invited too. Last year the first seminar at CPAC was led by the outspoken leader of a white supremacist group. 2 or 3 years ago Rush Limbaugh was a keynote speaker. They are out of their minds.

  • @TheSutraDude - No…they just keep hoping people will notice that Obama is half black. I’m pretty sure the ENTIRE strategy of Romney was based on how white he was.

  • @galadrial - I remember Romney’s little barb. When campaigning before a crowd in his birth state he everyone here knows he and his wife were born here. If not ENTIRE that was the large part of the Romney and GOP strategy. The Romney campaign and FOX went into a state of shock when they learned he lost, early in the count no less. Even dems expected a long night. The thing is FOX, Rove, the Romney people were that much out of touch with people. A FOX news person stormed into the room of their own pollsters insinuating they were wrong about Ohio. They weren’t.

But to your point, it sickens me how much racism still exists in this country and I have no qualms calling racists ignorant.
