  • Let M be 1 Million:
    0.98 x = 178M
    x = 178M/0.98 = 181.63M
    181.63M – 178M = 3.63M which does not = 60,000.

  • And that doesn’t even BEGIN to tackle the question of what “savings” means.

  • While the sinkhole in FL was tragic for one family…  This sinkhole is a broader economic travesty for how many others?!?

  • @McScarry - The sixty thousand is how much they cut from the people who “failed”…and it only cost HOW many millions?

  • @McScarry - And how many people had their privacy violated to catch them? The people who think it’s fine would go batshit if the government searched homes looking for illegal drugs or weapons—but for some reason this is just dandy…

  • Whether it is ethical to ‘save’ 60 000 by depriving vurnable people from the minimum of what one needs to live, is highly questionable, regardless of what has been wasted or not.

  • i totally agree this dragnet drug testing police state junk is crap of the bull…but did this program really cost 178 million to start with? for one year? damn.

  • @galadrial - So that $60,000 is what the state saves by not paying social benefits to those who test positive for drugs? It makes me wonder what it costs to process these people through the justice system for the crimes they could potentially commit to get their needs met. I suspect these 2% would cost more to our justice system.

  • @complicatedlight - Of course. Worse, the Governor’s wife may have supplied a lot of the testing, which makes it unethical as all hell…but Scott isn’t what you call highly ethical anyway.

  • skeletor? ethical? as one with family and friends in the tallahassee area, and having grown up there, having witnessed the decline from the askew era, i’ll certainly second you there.

  • @complicatedlight - It amazes me that he demonize social spending, when he made himself rich from Medicare…

  • from larry craig to scott walker to rick scott to rick perry (what’s up with the scotts and ricks?)…that whole crowd gives new meaning to the term “cognitive dissonance”…
