  • Stupid People, and Others

Some gazoonie is trying to make people believe the FBI was behind the bombing at the Boston Marathon.

I read one idiot suggesting that the fact that “no one was puking” was PROOF that it was a government conspiracy.

Wow. That sort of fails the logic test. Not just a little…a LOT.

I’ve seen some horrific accidents. Hell…I’ve been in one.

I am very tender stomached…I don’t watch slasher flicks…but I also used to work in a hospital ER. I’ve never once thrown up in public. I’ve never seen something so awful it made me hurl. Oh yeah, and I think conspiracy theorists are a bit out there.

It occurred to me today that at the root of every lynch mob, there was an agent provocateur whispering things that whipped the crowd into a frenzy. We don’t give crazed mobs credit for being brilliant arbiters of justice…but when someone feeds their fears, and insecurities? Scary things happen. Innocent people die…for no cause. It’s not that a conspiracy is impossible…it’s just more unlikely. And the bigger a conspiracy, the less likely in this day and age that everyone will keep their yap shut…not when their 15 minutes of fame is on the line.

So, I will wait to see what happens. I am not assuming the crazy mom of one of the suspected bombers has ANY idea what she’s talking about. She’s a MOTHER, and her “sweet child” is being charged with a horrific crime. Easier to believe that it’s a MASSIVE conspiracy than to accept that her DNA hatched a monster.

I know governments screw up…sometimes with intention. But I can’t think of a single decent outcome for bombing the marathon—that would make it worth the risk, for the US. So…I’m ignoring the “False Flaggers, the tea baggers, and the Birthers…mostly because they are too stupid for words. A pity they have SO many of them…

  • Nicely said… have to agree with you.  I can understand why the mother spouts such theories.  Like you said… she’s the mother.  She feels compelled to protect.  But the others that get onto her bandwagon… Ugh!

  • Man those crazies are out there saying all kinds of junk. I had a friend who believed that Sandy hook wasn’t real and it was conspiracy to take guns away. SHE is a school teacher not an uneducated person that actually believe that. I said to what point would our Government do that? It so explains how people in this country DO NOT know how government works.

  • Yes, I think the mother would say anything to protect her child since she lost one already. Who knows, maybe she is involved more than she wants to admit and it’s easier for her to point fingers elsewhere (FBI though??)

  • Conspiracy theorists really have very vivid imaginations.  Unfortunately, when they start using social media and news outlets to publicize their craziness, people get sucked right in.

  • @gottobereal64 - The trouble is a lack of accountability. When I was training in journalism, more than 30 years back, you needed more than rumor to get something published. The public wants the story NOW…which last week had the media tripping over themselves to get it wrong so much. People are in part to blame…for believing ANY rumor. and worse…spreading it here…one the web.

  • Of course that mother will say anything about her son in order to get him out.

  • The crazies. If not for them Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and FOX and Friends would all be flipping burgers somewhere.

  • I think for some it’s a way to feel good about themselves, to be important.  The one person who knows the truth and is trying to “save” everyone from the corrupt evil government.

And of course some innocent bystanders just get sucked into conspiracy theories because of bad evidence, misinformation, crappy logic etc.

  • They find the oddest “proof,” too. Didn’t someone “see” a few off duty Navy SEALS in the crowd? You know what THAT means! Uh, they wanted to see the marathon?

  • i think conspiracy theories are just a way for people to deal with the randomness and chaos of existence.  i’ve never understood it, because the idea that horrible things happen at random doesn’t really bother me.

  • This could have been written by me. The wingnuts have been in a feeding frenzy since it happened and there is more stupid shit being tossed around the blogosphere than actual information. Some of it is quite hilarious. The rest…fucking painful to read. How do people who think the government set this whole thing up to take the focus off of tax day (read that little gem on Yahoo) manage to also dress themselves? Surely such an intricate activity is beyond them.

Hello by the way. It’s been a long time. How is Massachusetts treating you?  :o )

  • @ZombieMom_Speaks - Hey Lady!
