State Rights?
http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/05/15/kansas/
Or the wrongs fostered by a De-centralized government, allowed to ride rough shod over the rights of their people?

It’s like some of us like minded thinkers have begun, simultaneously, to challenge the stupidity and the LIES about this supposed terrible fed gover GIGANTICUS operation.
Gov. giganticus. It’s mythical, does NOT exist except when it comes to women’s bodies and not protecting them from the states govs like it should be doing.
I started last night and I see people doing the same thing today. RESEARCH as in, what did these founding people REALLY say?
It’s turning out that it’s NOT what the TEA BAG people say they said. go figure.
It’s like Kansas, Mississippi and Arizona are all sprinting towards the finishing line of “Craziest State in the Union.”
the evil behind this movement is frightening. tea baggers claim to be concerned about the economy but what do they do once in office? legislate against women. i grew up during the 60s/70s women’s liberation movement and supported it. now it’s like….Americans two steps forward, tea baggers 20 steps backwards.
Can I rage-quit from life? Or at the very least beat these motherfuckers to death?
I know, I’ll convert to the worship of Cthulhu! Since, as far as these people are concerned, the religious beliefs of one person completely outweigh another person’s rights to their own body, clearly I’d be justified in sacrificing them as part of my religious beliefs. Right?
Ugh. Disgusting. I’m on the pill, and I’m not even having sex. I’m on birth control to regulate my period….and if I lived in Kansas I could get denied? So then I could have severe heavy bleeding for over 2 weeks and get anemic? And have my health be in jeopardy? What if I lose too much blood, pass out, and hit my head resulting in brain trauma? Could I sue the government???
While I believe any pharmacist who owns his own pharmacy should be able to decide what he sells, it should be made clear on his door or something. Abortion, birth control pills, and the morning after pill does weigh heavily on some people’s hearts. Though I believe those individuals with true compassion would either hand out the prescription or send the woman to someplace that does. I don’t believe we can dictate what a person must do. But hey if you work at Rite Aide or CVS, your job is to follow company policy so you have to hand it all out!
However! Signing a law like this is just a stepping stone. Inch and inch the way to control not just the morning after pill, but birth control pills too (they can technically cause an abortion if you believe an abortion is any interference with a fertilized egg). Wonder if Kansas has a recall the Governor option like CA? At any rate hope the Women’s Rights Groups in Kansas are filing lawsuits like mad!
I don’t want a federal law to cover every stupid law a state comes up with, but damn some states are doing some stupid ass crap lately.
@TiredSoVeryTired - OK…but say the pharmacist were a Christian Scientist. His or her ethics would suggest that ALL diseases should be treated with prayer. But their choice of occupation is to DISPENSE medicine. I know it seems weird, and unlikely—but at this stage of the game, I can’t really discount ANY human behavior.
And what about the inverse? What if I really believe that supplying someone with fertility drugs is WRONG…is that my call? Is that my business? Or are we really supposed to tolerate someone making the calls for us…based on THEIR moral code, instead of our doctors, or our own judgement?
@crazy2love - I hear you. They had me on it to treat menopausal symptoms…but under this law, a pharmacist (with no knowledge of my medical history) could refuse to supply me with the pill. One patients medical need cannot be trumped by another persons philosophical view…nor should anyone be FORCED to explain themselves to be able to follow their doctor’s suggestions.
That doesn’t seem like a “fine line” to me…more like the Grand Canyon!
@Doitean - Sweetie, I’m surprised they haven’t taken to sacrificing anyone who doesn’t share their beliefs…it’s in the old testament, after all!
@TheSutraDude - The really interesting part is the fact that the last group that favored a De-centralized government was the Confederacy…and it did not work out well for them!
@GodlessLiberal - I think you forgot Texas!
@DivaJyoti - I’m not sure if I should be more offended, or insulted by the lies and and distortions of the Tea Party. I know some actually BELIEVE what they say…and that is even worse. Their ability to repeat bilge is scary. They NEVER check their facts. They accept Fox News, Glenn Beck, and JOE THE PLUMBER as “sources”…and never question them.
Scary.
My government has moved from making me sad to making me scared.
@galadrial - We would hope that anybody with a brain wouldn’t go into a line of work that involves them doing something they don’t want to do. Having been in the Navy, I can understand that at times something will come up that will be unethical for me to do. Luckily, I only faced it once and it was a financial thing not a life/death/harming people thing. I refused to do it. I was written up, but since I was correct I wasn’t the one who got chewed out.
So, if someone owns their own pharmacy (like a mom and pop shop) they are free in this country to sell what is in their comfort level. So, if a Christian Scientist wants to dole out prayers instead of medicine, he’s probably not going to see a lot of business. Since it is a mom and pop shop, I’d gather the people will have other options that their insurance company covers.
Now, if someone works at CVS or Rite Aid, your job is to follow company policy and if that means you have to hand out medicine you don’t agree with, then you do your job. If you don’t like it, well then start your own private business and not hand out whatever you don’t want to hand out. Just be sure to have a sign that says, “I don’t fill birth control prescriptions”. Then, the issue is solved.
This allows everyone the option to do as they feel comfortable. If you go into pharmacy because you like the job and like helping people but are opposed to the morning after pill, you either get over yourself or work privately. I don’t understand worrying so much about preventing other people’s rights, **I understand saying I don’t believe in this, so you can’t do it even though it is legal. But if you truly believe that the MAP is killing human life, then I don’t think you should be forced to hand it out without any options. Which doesn’t mean I agree with this law, this should just be an issue people work out amongst themselves.
@TiredSoVeryTired - And had I not been given the MAP after rape, I might agree with you. But it happened. And being pregnant as a result would have utterly destroyed me.So forgive me if someone else’s ideals seem less relevant.
And yes, i was thinking more of chains like CVS.
I also don’t believe my employer is entitled to my medical records…and that is a slippery slope indeed. Is an employer entitled to my gynecological records? I am frank with my doctor. I always have been. Do I really need to share intimate details with an employer…because they feel entitled to know what sort of birth control I use?
Someone else’s ideals always seem irrelevant when we are in a pickle. I wouldn’t hand anyone the MAP. I wouldn’t even hand it to my 14-year-old daughter. I would drive all over the place for hours to get the prescription for her. But I would not hand it to her. I would set it down on a table and she can take it. I’d do everything I needed to help her, but I couldn’t hand it to her.
Although every woman has a right to decide abortion or MAP or birth control, I couldn’t hand it to anyone or perform an abortion (even further I could sentence someone to death, but couldn’t be the executioner). So, I understand the ordeal some may go through. I know a lot of people who are pro-life because they genuinely feel horrible for the child. And I wouldn’t want to make them do something they truly believe is wrong. Assholes who want to control women, well then I don’t care they can just be a male prison pharmacist then not have to worry about this.
But at CVS, you just do your job and shut up. lol
No, I absolutely don’t believe anyone is entitled to anyone’s medical records. That most definitely is scary! Of course, an employer has no say in it at all. The companies money is going to health care, not specific stuff anyway. Even, so I don’t believe in any case a patient should have to explain to a pharmacist anything! Never ever, under any circumstances should any person owe an explanation to a pharmacist. If they don’t want to hand out these prescriptions, they own their own shop and put up a sign. People can then choose to give him their money or picket the crap out of him.
@TiredSoVeryTired - Actually, I want to thank you. I know there are areas where we don’t agree…but i have never felt like you picking a fight. or being disrespectful while expressing your opinions. I respect your right to different views…and I appreciate your way of standing your ground. Not shrill…not accusatory…it’s rather refreshing.
And I always enjoy your posts…even when I don’t agree with them!
That is so wrong. People complain about all of the unwanted children in the world and all of the abortions by woman who do not want kids, and yet they refuse to provide some thing that is cheaper and will prevent unwanted pregrancies.
@Grannys_Place - I agree completely.
Birth Control has become a hot button issue…and that troubles me.
Women matter.
Yet the leading cause of death in pregnant women is homicide…murder.
Doesn’t that bother anyone else?
@galadrial - lol Thanks! I think we should always understand each other in this world, we don’t have to agree, just understand.
